Platform thinking

From repeated workflow to reusable platform.

Understand the recurring operating problem before turning repeated delivery work into a shared product foundation.

MKP IT SolutionsEnterprise perspective

Identify the recurring problem

Look for similarities in the business journey: the actors, the information required, the decisions and the outcome. Similar screens alone do not establish a common product. Compare how organizations handle exceptions and governance as carefully as the steps they share.

Define the common foundation

Separate the capabilities that remain consistent from the policies and connections that vary by organization. Decide which variations can be configured and which need a deliberate extension. Keep these boundaries understandable so that a new requirement does not quietly change the shared behavior for everyone.

Validate the product boundary

Walk through representative journeys with the people who operate them. Check whether the proposed foundation supports their required decisions, permissions and handoffs. Use those findings to define a focused release and an extension approach. Continue to evaluate reuse against the actual operating problem as the platform evolves.

Working takeaway

A reusable platform needs a stable operating foundation and explicit boundaries for variation.
